World News Video Accidents

A United Airlines Boeing 777-200 bound for Honolulu suffered an engine failure shortly after takeoff from Denver on Saturday, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The plane returned to Denver where it landed safely. Images shared on social media showed what appeared to be a part of the engine covering in front of a house, while police shared images of other debris. United said there were no injuries reported on board the flight.

“The FAA is aware of reports of debris in the vicinity of the airplane’s flight path,” the agency said in a statement.

The plane departed Denver International Airport shortly after 1 p.m. Mountain time and returned to the airport less than 30 minutes afterward, according to flight-tracking site Flightradar24. (read more...)

The NASA Perseverance rover safely landed on Mars after its 292.5 million-mile journey from Earth, the agency confirmed at 3:55 p.m. ET Thursday. The rover landed itself flawlessly, according to the mission's team.

"Percy," as the spacecraft is affectionately called at mission control, sent back its first images of the landing site immediately after touchdown, which shows the rover's shadow on the surface of its landing site of Jezero Crater.

Two 11-week-old white tiger cubs that died in a Pakistani zoo last month appear to have died of COVID-19, officials have said.

The cubs died in the Lahore Zoo on January 30, four days after beginning treatment for what officials thought was feline panleukopenia virus, a disease that targets cats' immune systems and is common in Pakistan

But an autopsy found the cubs' lungs were badly damaged and they were suffering from severe infection, with pathologists concluding they died from COVID-19.

Although no PCR test for the new coronavirus was conducted, zoo deputy director Kiran Saleem told Reuters the zoo believes the cubs were the victims of the pandemic that has killed more than 12,200 people in Pakistan. (read more...)

“Tahoe is beautiful this time of year,” everyone tells me as I pack my bags and pensively hop on a plane to Nevada. They weren't kidding. The 40-degree morning air proved a nice change of pace from the humid swamp gas of South Florida, the sky was beautiful and bright blue – a reflection of the lake in the distance – and everything smelled like those pine tree air fresheners you get at the gas station. Ah, nature.

But I wasn’t in Tahoe simply to enjoy the natural beauty. In fact, I was there to drive what was essentially a giant middle finger to the surrounding environment: The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. Logically speaking, this truck shouldn't even exist; it's overpowered and oversized, and consumes fuel at an ungodly rate. But as we’ve learned, some of the best things in life are illogical, and the TRX is the best proof of that. (read more...)
